This was a Friday outfit. Technically this is pattern mixing, though it doesn't feel like it because the pattern on the pants is very subtle. Since all the items had threads of brown it felt pretty safe. The blouse is a bit much for work on its own, so I tend to cover it up, either with a vest like here or a jacket as below.

Superpowers
The whole purpose of this outfit was the tights. Since I live in Georgia I had always passed on the fleece lined tights, until the last snow storm that is (I know, the rest of you are laughing at our two inches, but the city was shut down for three days). And since snow is predicted for this week, I scrambled to find a pair. Of course now it's so warm that I don't even need a coat. Murphy's Law, right? Hey, if a pair of tights can prevent a snowstorm then I'll take them. Maybe I can turn my scarf into a cape and be a superhero.

Boots
Just one decent outfit photo today. This skirt has flowers along the bottom and came with a melon ribbon belt. I'm really not a floral kind of girl, so I tried to toughen it up with a geometric scarf, obi belt and boots.

Melting
It was back to work on Friday as the snow melted around us.
When one of my friends saw this scarf, she said her mother-in-law had made her a similar one. Must be an in-law thing, because my mother-in-law made me this beautiful one. It's actually the second one she has made for me, because I left the first one in a restaurant in Morocco ( though when I went back that night it was gone). This one has actually has a big gash in it- would it look bad if I asked her to make me another one?
This coat was my treat to myself after I took my boards. It's so beautiful that I rarely wear it. Hmhh... Silly, I know. Part of figuring out my style and looking put together means wearing clothes I love, and actually wearing all the clothes I have, so you may see more gems like this coat in the near future.
Originally I walked out the door with a long necklace on as well, but as I glanced in the mirror on the way out I took it off. The coat is statement enough, the necklace only distracted from it.
Happy Monday!

Happy 2014!
Happy New Year! I know, it's been 2014 for a month already, but I may or may not still have holiday cards waiting to be mailed out. (Hey, they don't specify which holiday to be happy about, they could be really early Easter cards). It's been a bit of a whirlwind for us. We took a ten day trip to India for my cousin's wedding, with the kids, of course. We got sick coming back, and with the cold our pipes burst. And we had two birthdays last week.
But on to other things. Since the sun has finally decided to peek out, I was able to take a few outfit photos.
Now on to the outfit. I love these neutral colors, but I don't wear them
often. I feel I look better in color. As Diane Vreeland said, "Pink is the navy blue of India."
And on to the patterned tights. I didn't set out to wear patterned tights, but in my search for beige tights these were literally the only ones I found. I wasn't sure I could pull them off, but I have to say I like them. This skirt has a herringbone pattern, which goes nicely with the diamond pattern on the tights.
And that just leaves the booties. I had done a lot of research on what type of booties I should wear, color, heel height, vamp, etc to be flattering on me. This pair basically was the opposite of all of that. But you know what? I love them. They are so pretty. Now that I see them, they actually look similar to the Chloe studded ankle boots that got me interested in booties to begin with. These have become part of my weekend uniform. However under jeans only the front toe part shows (yeah, that's the technical term) so I really wanted to try them with a skirt and show their glory.
So there you have it. My absolute favorite outfit of the new year.
